PROJECT OVERVIEW

2024년 개원을 앞둔 약선향은 서울 강남구 도곡동에 위치한 작은 규모의 한의원입니다. 오랜 경험과 전문성을 바탕으로 전통 한의학의 원리를 현대적인 신의학 지식과 결합해, 최적화된 한약 치료를 제공하는 것을 목표로 설립되었습니다. 서로 다른 경험과 배경을 가진 두 명의 운영자가 함께 병원을 운영하는 만큼, 각기 다른 성격과 관점을 조율하고 종합하는 것이 이번 프로젝트의 핵심 과제였습니다. 다행히, 프로젝트룸을 찾아온 의뢰인은 스스로를 기획자라 칭할 만큼 브랜드의 본질과 방향성을 명확히 이해하고 있었고, 두 운영자는 '단순함'과 '덜어냄'이라는 가치를 공통적으로 강조하는 등 브랜드의 핵심 철학을 공유하고 있었기에 프로젝트는 비교적 순조롭게 진행될 수 있었습니다.

브랜드 아이덴티티의 골격 구조를 이루는 모든 단서는 인터뷰에서 나왔고, 이 과정에서 ‘무엇을 더할지보다 무엇을 덜어낼지를 고민한다’는 약선향의 핵심 철학이 도출되었습니다. 이는 브랜드의 에센스이자 태그라인의 역할을 동시에 수행하며, 모든 디자인과 커뮤니케이션 요소에 일관된 방향성을 제공하는 기준점이 되었습니다. 특히, 네이밍 작업에는 가장 많은 시간이 소요되었습니다. 상표권 문제뿐 아니라, 프로젝트룸을 처음 찾았을 당시 두 운영자는 네이밍에 대한 명확한 기준이 없었고 서로 상반된 의견을 가지고 있었기 때문입니다. 그런 의미에서 ‘약선향 藥禪香’이라는 이름은 ‘약(藥)의 단순한 즐거움을 널리 퍼뜨린다’는 뜻을 담아, 약선향이 추구하는 가장 중요한 가치를 효과적으로 표현한 이름이었습니다. 이 이름은 한의원을 운영하는 두 운영자의 공통된 철학인 ‘단순함’과 ‘덜어냄’에서 출발했으며, 브랜드의 본질과 완벽히 부합했습니다.

디자인의 경우 단순히 시각적으로 아름다운 결과물을 제작하는 것을 넘어, 본질에 충실한 접근을 지향했습니다. 약선향의 로고, 컬러 시스템, 타이포그래피 등은 모두 간결하면서도 차분하고 신뢰감을 주는 요소로 구성되었으며, 자연스러운 색조와 깔끔한 디자인 위주로 이루어져 있습니다. 이는 클라이언트가 선호하는 디자인이기도 했습니다. 심볼은 동양적 미학과 한의학 철학을 담아, 심플하면서도 함축적인 상징성을 추구했습니다. 사람의 인체를 간략하게 형상화한 도형과 체계적인 진료 과정을 상징화하였으며, 패키지 디자인은 제품군(일반형, 고급형)에 따라 명확한 차별화를 두기 위해 대비되는 두 가지 컬러를 사용했습니다. 그 외에도 복약지도서와 소견서 등을 포함한 각종 서식과 사이니지 등 다양한 작업 전반을 수행했습니다.
Yakseonhyang, set to open in 2024, is a small-scale Korean medicine clinic located in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Established with the goal of providing optimized herbal treatments, the clinic combines the principles of traditional Korean medicine with modern medical knowledge, supported by years of experience and expertise. As the clinic is jointly operated by two individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, harmonizing their differing personalities and perspectives was a central challenge of the project. Fortunately, the client who approached Project Room identified themselves as a planner, showing a clear understanding of the brand's essence and direction. Both operators shared a common focus on the values of "simplicity" and "elimination," which formed the brand's core philosophy and ensured a smooth progression of the project.

The foundation of Yakseonhyang’s brand identity was entirely shaped by insights gathered during interviews. From this process emerged the brand's key philosophy: "focusing on what to eliminate rather than what to add." This philosophy not only serves as the essence of the brand but also functions as its tagline, providing consistent direction for all design and communication elements. Naming was the most time-intensive part of the project. Beyond trademark issues, the two operators initially lacked a clear naming standard and held opposing views. Against this backdrop, the name Yakseonhyang (藥禪香) was chosen. It embodies the meaning of "spreading the simple joy of medicine" and effectively captures the brand’s most essential values. Rooted in the shared philosophy of "simplicity" and "elimination," the name perfectly aligns with the brand’s essence and was unanimously selected as the final name.

The design approach prioritized fidelity to the brand’s core rather than merely creating visually appealing outcomes. Yakseonhyang's logo, color system, and typography are composed of elements that are simple, calm, and convey trustworthiness. The design employs natural tones and clean aesthetics, aligning with the client’s preferences. The symbol reflects Eastern aesthetics and the philosophy of Korean medicine, aiming for simplicity while carrying layered meanings. It uses minimal forms to represent the human body and symbolizes a systematic treatment process. Packaging design focuses on conveying both simplicity and sophistication, with distinct color schemes differentiating the product lines (standard and premium). Additionally, various materials, including prescription guides, medical opinion forms, and signage, were developed to ensure consistency across all aspects of the brand identity.
